Fun in the Snow!
Today we had an interesting challenge. A server room which normally operates at 18 degrees, was over-heating at a whopping 40 degrees! The issue? Heavy Snow! There was a recent heavy snowfall in the area, and the server rooms’ air conditioner unit was mounted on the rooftop of the building. We were able to shut down the systems gracefully in time; before getting up to the roof and clearing out the air conditioners. After about 15 min they kicked back in, and the server room came back down to standard operating temperature. Thankfully services were only disrupted for a few hours. If the units had shut down due to overheating, this could have been a much worse scenario! We have recommended that this client install an ‘IP’ thermostat, so that there will be an alert the next time this happens.
